About The FOSSILS SOUTH JERSEY CAR CLUB |
The Fossils. Well, our official name is "The Fossils of South Jersey, Inc.". The club was founded
in the early 80's by eight fellows attending a car show in a group. When asked
the name of their club, one of them responded by saying "we're not a club,
just a bunch of old Fossils' and that was the beginning of what is now one of
the most admired and respected clubs in New Jersey. We are registered as a non-profit
organization with the local, state and federal governments. We donate thousands
of dollars each year to many charities, deserving projects and programs,
such as: a scholarship at the vocational school system preferably to go to a
student of the automotive trade; municipal and county food banks; American Cancer
Society; The Make-A-Wish Foundation; Oceans Of Love (a county organization similar
to the Make-A-Wish Foundation) just to name a few. Each year we collect
food, winter clothing and medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc.)
that are then distributed to and through the hospitals to the needy. Every
August we sponsor a sock hop for the Commission For The Disabled in Jackson Township.
The Fossils are a family oriented club. Our memberships are families...husband,
wife and children living at home. All members have an equal voice in all
club matters. We have only two formal club meetings a year. The monthly club
business is overseen by a board of trustees What do we do as a club? Every saturday night during the winter months, we get together and go out to dinner. Summertime, we do ice cream runs. Every February, we do a bus trip to an Atlantic City casino on the same weekend of the big Atlantic City Car Auction/ Swap Meet. Late March, we have our annual Awards Dinner/Dance. The third Sunday of May is our annual Car Show. May also starts our Cruize Nights, held on the last friday of each month through September at the Jackson Outlet Village (next to Six Flags Great Adventure). August, we hold a Sock Hop for the disabled. In September, we have our annual Mystery Cruise, where we meet at the Jackson Outlet Village and collect canned and non-perishable goods for the deserving. We give out maps and directions and leave for a fifty mile cruise through the country roads and finish the day with a pig roast/old fashioned BBQ. There is no charge for this event and like all of our events is open to the public. How does one become a Fossil one might ask? By asking a club member for an application and filling it out is a good start. You MUST have an American made vehicle manufactured before 1975 and be willing to be active in the club. If you can't be willing to show up and help, then Don't Bother Asking! If we don't get active members, we can't be an active club. Please be patient...we have a limited membership. |
